Should You Hire A Coach?

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 10 is to hire a coach.

Why?  I am a huge advocate of coaching, having had several business and sales coaches in my professional career.  Hiring a coach is by far one of the best investments of time and money you can make into yourself personally and into your business.

I remember hiring a coach for my direct sales business.  Little did I know at the time that she would coach me through one of the biggest transitions in my 10 year business.  I was so thankful that I had made the . . . → Read More: Should You Hire A Coach?

Is This The Best Use Of Your TIME?

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 8 is simple.

Ask yourself this question ALL DAY, “Is this the best use of my time?”

If the answer is no – find something else to do that is in better alignment with your personal or business goals.

It’s that simple.  Make it your mantra.  Ask yourself that one simple but powerful question throughout your day, and then do something else if what you are doing is not the best use of your time.

This could be personal and business.  Remember, there are times when playing with my children IS the . . . → Read More: Is This The Best Use Of Your TIME?

The 80/20 Rule and Your “To Do” List

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 7 is to apply the 80/20 rule to your to do list.

Did you know that the 80/20 rule applies to almost every situation?  In business, we know this rule to be that 80% of the sales are generated by 20% of the people, or 20% of the sales are generated by 80% of the people.  This rule is the Pareto Principle, and we can use it with your “to do” list as well.

If you look at your list and it has 10 action items to do that day, 2 of . . . → Read More: The 80/20 Rule and Your “To Do” List

The Right and Wrong Way to Make a “To Do” List

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 6 is to make a “to do” list every day.

Remember that only 1 out of 10 plan their day on paper before it begins.

There are several different “to do” lists that are needed to maximize your productivity, and there is a right and wrong way to set them up.

First, you need a Master “To Do” List.  This is a brain dump of everything that comes to mind that you need to do now or sometime in the future.  The easiest way to set up this Master “To Do” List . . . → Read More: The Right and Wrong Way to Make a “To Do” List

Plan Your Week On Sunday

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 5 is to Plan Your Week On Sunday.

Want to be in the top 10%?  It’s proven that only 1 out of 10 people plan their week in advance on paper.

Why is this important?  BIG increase in productivity.

When you know what you are going to do and when you are going to do it in advance, not only are you making sure that what you are doing is going to align with your values, goals and mission, but you know when things are going to happen that week.  Your brain . . . → Read More: Plan Your Week On Sunday

Are You a Good Boss?

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 4 is to Work as Hard For Yourself as You Would For Someone Else

WHOA!  Here is the truth.  Being your own boss is fantastic.  Being your own boss is awful.

It’s a double-edged sword.  And, if you are not careful, it can be harmful to the success of your business.

Sometimes you need to be the boss, and tell yourself that you need to make your prospecting phone calls, or that you need to do your follow up.  And at that time, you also need to be the employee and OBEY . . . → Read More: Are You a Good Boss?

Do You Have Office Hours?

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 3 is to Set Office Hours.

Why?  Very simple.  When we are self-employed, we still need to have boundaries.  If there is no set time for office hours then you will most likely be in and out of your office space all day.  This leads to a feeling of “I’m working all the time”!, when in reality, you are not.

When you are thinking of when you will set your office hours, remember that they can vary from week to week and from day to day.  The important part is that you . . . → Read More: Do You Have Office Hours?

The Right Way to Create Your Filing System

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 2 is to Create Your Filing System.

There is a right way and a wrong way to create a filing system.

Filing can be done electronically or with paper files.

Either way, you have to have a system that is EASY to use, and where it is EASY to find things.

If you were out of town, and someone else needed to find a file for you, your filing system has to be set up so that anyone could find what you are directing them to find.  Think intuitively when setting up . . . → Read More: The Right Way to Create Your Filing System

Create a Space for Your Business

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 1 is to Create a Space for Your Business.

Without a space to call your own, you cannot function and run a productive business.

I don’t care if it is a corner in the dining room, a spare bedroom or a closet.  You need a dedicated space for your business.

Where should this space be?  Somewhere NOT in the flow of traffic in your home.  Somewhere off the beaten path.

Take a minute and evaluate.  Do you have a space?  Is it in the best location?  Could another spot in your home . . . → Read More: Create a Space for Your Business
