Are You Using a Company-Replicated Website?

When I first started looking at doing more online marketing, the first thing I learned was to stay away from my own company replicated web site.  Apparently, Google doesn’t like the duplicated web sites all that much like this one.  Instead, it’s best if you can create your own web site.  And don’t worry about the regulations for you to be online through your company – there are many ways to be able to create a web site that does not mention your company directly, but will still drive traffic to you and to your opportunity.

Now, I am an internet newbie – Just a few short months ago, I knew NOTHING about html code, formatting, SEO (search engine optimization), Google rankings, etc…I was totally clueless.  Coming from that to actually creating several web pages from scratch for my various businesses (OrganizeNOW and Vermont Chocolate Chip Cookie Company).  And what’s even more amazing is that they were EASY to create!

When I started OrganizeNOW, I never expected to create my own web site, I just figured I would use a point and click template, which worked just fine for a while, but was limiting.  So, I started learning.  The easiest web page to set up is a blog, much like this one.  So, I set my blog up and wondered what to do about my main web site.  Then I came across Melanie Milletics.  Melanie wrote a fantastic book (MLM List Building Exposed) that tells you step-by-step how to create your capture pages and blog.

The problem with company replicated sites is that they don’t have anywhere for you to capture people’s information.  And the cardinal rule of online marketing is to build your own list, which means that you need to have somewhere to “opt in” on your web site.  Even if you do have an “opt in” form on your company replicated site, those names and information are now in your company’s database – not yours!  What happens if your company closes, or you switch to another company?  Where do those names go that you worked so hard for?  Hence, the importance of having your own list.

After reading Melanie’s book, I joined her free membership site as well, and then started using the information to make more capture pages.  As I kept going, the pages kept getting easier and better.  Much to my amazement, web pages are much easier to create than you think.  I use a free HTML editor NVU and the free FTP software FileZilla to upload my sites to the web.  It didn’t take me long to realize that I also needed the freedom to host my own sites to have complete control.  So, I host my sites through Host Gator, which has been great and very reliable.

Whew!  So, all of this to tell you that if I can create web pages in a short amount of time, then so can you.  You can view several sites that I have created to get an idea of what you might like on your site:  YouNeedMoreTime.com, OrganizeNOW, Vermont Chocolate Chip Cookie Company.  Currently, I am working on the site that will replace my company replicated site next!  Should have it done in just a few days…and the content will be all mine to edit or create as I please!  And did I mention Google likes different sites??  Since creating OrganizeNOW’s web site from scratch instead of using the point and click template editor I had, I went from #10 on Google, to #3 and I am still learning!  Go out and be inspired to create your own web sites, and take control of generating leads for your business online!
