Why Most People Don’t Make It In Network Marketing

Todd and LauraOkay, ready for another “tough love” message?  Here’s the truth, straight from the mouth of my friend and industry expert Todd Falcone.  Now pay attention!

Why Most People Don’t Make it in Network Marketing

These reasons are not in any particular order, but they are EXACTLY why people don’t cut it.  There are actually several reasons why people don’t make it.  Here they are…you ready?

They don’t work. When I say “they”, I don’t mean the network marketing companies, I mean the people in them.  Seriously, a great majority of people never really step up to the plate and go to bat. They sign up.  They “say” they’re in, but they never really commit.  These individuals often do everything BUT work. They THINK they’re working or they “kid” themselves into believing that doing research, cleaning their desk, getting ready, or becoming more organized is work.  That doesn’t cut it folks.  If you are EVER going to build a check in this business, you’ve got to get to work! So…what IS work in this business? Promotion, exposure, talking to people: prospecting.  You’ve got to be constantly “flipping rocks over” looking for new business.  In network marketing, you’ve got to BUILD a network.  Building a network requires that you get in and do.  When I say do, I DON’T mean do a little whenever.  I mean DO a lot, do it now, and keep ON doing it. People don’t work either because they are lazy, they don’t know WHAT to do or HOW to do it, or they let fear stop them from taking action.

So…a note to you for you personally and for others who you bring into this business:  help people, teach people, show them how to do it, and work with them.  If you don’t know WHAT to do or HOW to do it, there’s good news.  Guys like me. My entire focus of my seminar and speaking business is to teach people HOW TO do it.  So…there’s really no excuse when it comes to the HOW part of the business.

If you’re scared, that’s alright.  So was I. So were most people.  You’ve got to be willing to face fear one step at a time, one call at a time, one contact at a time.  Exercise courage in the face of your fears one step at a time.  It’s really the only way you’re going to work through it.  You can’t wish it away.  You can’t take a pill to get rid of it.  You’ve got to face that demon head on and destroy it. The great news is that you CAN conquer your fear if you simply FACE IT.

They quit. People quit all the time.  They start and never finish.  Why bother starting anything if you aren’t going to finish?  Look.  Unless you’re rich or a trust fund baby, you’ve got to work to survive.  You can either do it here in network marketing and have some leverage in your life and a real chance at creating greatness, time freedom and true wealth or you can work on getting someone else rich in a job. Either way, you’re going to be faced with challenges.  Just because you’re in a job doesn’t mean it is going to be easy.  In fact, in today’s marketplace having a job isn’t really secure anyhow.  I know people who’ve been in what they thought were secure jobs, working for one company for 10 or 20 years, and then find themselves without a job literally overnight.

Do yourself a favor.  Make a commitment here.  Don’t got into a company thinking you’re going to “give it a shot” for a bit and “see how it goes”.   Instead, give it everything you’ve got and MAKE it go.  Don’t quit.  You’ll never get to the finish line if you do.

They don’t know what to do. People aren’t noodles.  You can’t “throw them against the wall” and see if they stick. You’re not making pasta here. You’re building a business. People who don’t know what to do or how to do it, don’t often do anything.

It’s kind of hard doing something you don’t know how to do.  In fact…it is impossible!  We’ve all got to get back in the trenches of training and teaching and helping.  I probably wouldn’t be in the business today if I didn’t have someone who TAUGHT me how to think differently and DO things differently.  I’m very lucky to have been mentored by someone.

On the flip side, if someone knows what to do and how to do it, they’ll probably do it.

They really don’t care. Yep.  They don’t. Some people really don’t care. They SAY they do.  They SAY they want change, but they really don’t.  If they did, they’d take actions to make that change.  There are lots of people that are not congruent between what they SAY they want and what they REALLY want.  They simply don’t care.  You know what?  When you have someone like that in your business, you’re wasting your time. Instead, go find someone who DOES care…and care for them.  Work with them. Show them how to do it.

They expect too much too soon. This goes along with the “they quit” reason, but a bit different.  People are programmed to have specific expectations about making money.  Their entire lives have been filled with “work two weeks and get a check” mentality.  This business is different.  In fact, being in business for yourself, whether network marketing or anything else is different.  ALL businesses take time to build.  You’ve heard that ” Rome wasn’t built in a day”.  Why then do people expect that they’re going to build a huge business in 60 to 90 days? They’ve been programmed to expect things to be different.  Understand this.  You are paid on the accumulation of volume in an organization.  Volume takes time to accumulate and build.  Exercise patience.

They jump ship. There are TONS of people that are looking for the answer in another company. You’re not going to find it. People who jump ship don’t make it. They THINK the answer is in another product, another team, another comp plan.  The answer lies within.  Look around. If people are making money in your company and you’re not, the answer is YOU. It isn’t the comp plan’s fault, your sponsor’s fault, your product’s fault, it is YOUR fault.  The good news is that in the end, it will also be your fault when you create success!

How to MAKE IT in Network Marketing

Work.

Don’t quit.

Learn.

Care.

Adjust your expectations.

Stay.

If you’re going to make it in this business, you’ve got to work your business.  Make a commitment and DO.  It’s great to be organized and have a clean office, but that won’t pay the bills. Get out there and talk to people. Be consistent.  Do something every day.  Don’t quit. This business isn’t easy, but it IS fairly simple. You’ll be challenged here.  You’ll be challenged elsewhere.  The rewards of you staying in the game far outweigh the pain of you getting there.  It’s worth it.  Learn how to do this now.  Get yourself in front of other people that know HOW to do this business and learn from them.  Don’t think you’re going to figure it out all on your own if you already don’t know how to do it.  Lean on your leadership.  Use them. Find an expert and watch them.  Do what they do.  Don’t reinvent the wheel.  Do what works.  Plug into me. I teach the HOW part of this business. Plug in to ANYTHING and ANYONE that knows more than you and learn from them.  You should care. If you don’t, you’re toast!  Take control of your own life because nobody else is going to do it for you. Step up and start caring about you, your kids, and your future.  CREATE it. If you don’t have a plan for you, someone else is going to have you fit into their plan.  I promise you this.  The plan most people will have for you won’t be nearly as nice as the plan you’d have for yourself if you simply cared more.  Change your expectations now.  Face the facts.  The reality is that it is going to take time to build.  Stop letting yourself down thinking that you’re going to be rich or even close to it overnight.  It takes time.  Anything worthwhile takes time to build.  Stay where you are, the answer isn’t somewhere else. Put your head down and your blinders on. Step up to the plate, commit and take action.  Make a decision to STAY someplace long enough for it to happen.  Again…just being there doesn’t cut it.  You’ve got to work it.  The answer to your success lies within, not within another company. Stay.  You’ll be happy you did.
