Just today, I replaced burned out lights on my Christmas tree. There were 100+ that were out. I bought the string of 100 mini lights for $1.84 instead of spending $1.25 for just 10 replacement bulbs. This took me an hour to do, that means that I got an hourly rate of $10/hour, tax free (difference of $12.50 for replacement bulbs vs. $1.84)! Thanks Sara, I couldn’t agree more! I bought the string of 100 mini lights for $1.84 instead of spending $1.25 for just 10 replacement bulbs. I LOVE the Tightwad Gazette. It's the best financial book I've ever read. She doesn't just give you a list of things to do or not to do, she embraces a lifestyle choice of being frugal. It's all about making decisions to reach your goals. I moved to VT in 1995 with nary a cent to my name and yet 18 months later I bought a condo when I was making $10/hr! How did I do that? I chose to by NOT buying that "it's only $xx" item. I put that $xx in to my condo fund and moved forward one penny at a time. The TG is the best! Thanks for mentioning it. Sarah Woo hoo!
