31 Goals in 31 Days – Day 8 – Weekend Projects

Now that my filing system is all set up and revamped for the latest business papers that have come my way, and all the papers have been filed in their respective places, I know that I can find anything at a moment’s notice.

Throughout the week, I have been crossing off things on my Master To Do List every day as they are accomplished, and the one thing that really stood out to me all week was that there is a large number of things on my Master To Do List that are household related projects.

So, today’s goal is two fold.  First, I am going to re-write my Master To Do List.  This is for two reasons: 1) I have crossed out many things, and since I use paper and pen to write this list, and get great joy in making large pen marks to cross things off as I go, the list has gotten a little cluttered (visually), so I know it’s time to re-write, and 2) As I re-write the list, I am going to separate out the household projects into a separate list (since there are so many, and most require a significant time investment to complete).

So, in essence I will have a household projects list as a sub-list of the Master To Do List.  Secondly, today is Saturday, so today’s goal is to work on one of the projects.  Although I would love to finish one project today, I don’t know if that will be possible, simply because I am not choosing the least time consuming or easiest project first.

As I was cleaning and decluttering the basement, I came across ceiling tiles that are for a project in my basement that remains incomplete.  This involves taking the existing ceiling tiles down (the previous owner had 2 different types of tiles in this one area, and since renovating a mud room directly off of this main room, it looks a little strange to now have 3 patterns of ceiling tiles), painting the crossbars (which are gold, compared to the white ones in the new mudroom – this was because gold was no longer available – think 70′s), and then installing the new (and matching to the mudroom) ceiling tiles.

So, today, the kids and I are going to be working on that project, and this “weekend projects” goal will be to do something on the project list every weekend.  Tomorrow, I’ve already decided that the next most important thing (I picked the ceiling tiles downstairs because, having cleaned everything, we were ready to vacuum, and then decided it would be a mess to do the ceiling tiles, so those needed to be done first) is to paint our master bedroom sliding glass door.  This door is wood, which unfortunately absorbs moisture.  So, you can imagine that the door needs some cleaning after we run the humidifier every winter all winter long.  As a result, instead of just cleaning the door, I’m also going to paint it with Kilz and then white glossy paint to match the trim, which should significantly cut down on the cleaning necessary next winter.

For now, it’s off to work…

To your success,

Dr. Laura
