31 Goals in 31 Days – Day 9 – Ongoing Learning

I’ve been having a lot of fun (and getting a lot accomplished) so far with the 31 Goals in 31 Days Challenge.  Here’s a recap and update of what I’ve done so far:

Day 1 – The Master To Do List – I’ve accomplished a significant amount of items that were listed here, as well as noticed “themes” of items that need to be done, such as household projects, and training videos that need to be watched.

Day 2 – The Prospect List – I’ve continued to call several people each day, and as a result, have booked several more shows for my home business, as well as have several leads who want more information on joining my team.

Day 3 – Finish A Book – I’ve done well here, and in just under a week, have finished the Power of Motherhood book as well as the Five Love Languages (this was finished easily because it was on my Kindle, and I carry it with me to take advantage of 10-15 minutes here and there (waiting for children, etc.)), so I’m on to the third of four “in process” books – Promptings.

Day 4 – A Gentle and Quiet Spirit – I’m doing better here, and have had a lot less yelling across the house.  I’ve also made a point of getting down on the child’s level to talk to them.

Day 5 – Family Meal Time – We are enjoying the family meal table, and as an extension of that, have introduced “Pizza and Movie Night” on Friday nights.  So, we make homemade pizza and then after the children go to bed, the hubby and I watch a movie.

Day 6 – Declutter – The basement is much better and cleaning it has lead to gathering several things that were upstairs and “filing” them correctly in the banker’s box system down in the storage closet.  I am looking forward to the next area to declutter, which is going to be the laundry room!

Day 7 – File Papers – Everything is better with a good filing system.  So, anytime you have anything added to your home or business, make sure you create the appropriate file folder and put it into the filing cabinet so that it is ready to receive future papers you will get.  Now that I’ve added a new section to my filing cabinet, everything is once again, filed correctly.  I also created two new binders (one for my team files, and one for training material and resources – a quick reference guide) to accommodate some of the incoming files.

Day 8 – Weekend Projects – Yesterday, I was able to take down all of the old ceiling tiles (which my son helped number in order so we can see where the new ones will go back up), then we painted the old gold frame, and made a quick trip to Home Depot for some supplies and extra ceiling tiles.  Now I’m working on installing a light, but I need a small wire protector, so I’m on “hold” until my neighbor calls back – He is the ultimate handyman, with his own workshop, so I know he has a protector I could have (and therefore save the 30 minute one-way trip to Home Depot…ah, the joys of rural living!).  So, today, I’m starting the master bedroom sliding door painting project while I wait for the part needed to move forward with the ceiling tiles.

Which brings us to today.  When I was looking at the Master To Do List as a whole, several groups of items stood out to me that belonged together.  A great example of this was the household projects (hence the reason I pulled them out and grouped them together in their own list because there were so many things listed), and another I found was several video training or audio lessons that I want to listen to.

I consider myself a lifelong learner, and I’m always reading something that will improve my knowledge, or listening to audios in the car, or watching videos that are educational.  In fact, I love turning my car into my “mobile university”.  Jokingly (but somewhat seriously), I have said that my children will have a fantastic education by the time they learn to drive because they are always listening to motivational or instructional CDs in my car as we travel.  I don’t remember the last time I listened to the radio, although I do listen to some of my favorite songs sometimes on my iPod.  But, mostly educational materials to help me build my business, or improve achievement, etc.

Today, I’ve picked out three video training series off my Master To Do List that I would like to watch, as well as about 50 audios that I would like to listen to.  Now, the video series all have multiple videos in each to watch, ranging from 10 minutes to an hour or more.  The audios are the same, ranging from 30 minutes to over an hour.  Some of the audios are available as a podcast.

So, the goal for today is to watch one video or listen to one audio each day until completed (or temporarily caught up!).  Since some of the audios are podcasts, I’ve purchased a separate iPod to be used for training audios and MP3s only.  This keeps it separate from my personal music iPod (which is very full anyway).  This way, I can listen to an audio while doing chores around the house, or in the car while traveling.  The videos must be watched from my computer, which is a lot less mobile, but there are fewer videos than audios, so I’ll just make the time to sit and watch one a day (or listen to an audio a day).

I am currently in the middle of a training series by Russell Brunson called Microcontinuity (which is fantastic by the way, and you can pick up a FREE MP3 player from him HERE), so I will finish those first.  Then, moving on to finishing the series by Mike Dillard called Traffic Formula 2.0 (another great one), and finally, some other miscellaneous videos.  These are all designed to help me drive traffic and increase leads for my business, and my organization and time management company, OrganizeNOW, so there will be “homework” assignments as part of watching these videos as well.

Before I start the master bedroom painting project today, I think I’ll go watch a video…

To your success,

Dr. Laura
