31 Goals in 31 Days – Day 19 – Water, Tea, and Soda…Oh My!

Today I am feeling a little sluggish.  I know it’s really for two reasons.  1) Not enough sleep.  I’ve deviated from my bedtime because I am working on finishing up a video training series, and so I’m burning the midnight oil.  I’ve still been doing some wind down activities like reading before bedtime, but the entire bedtime has shifted much later.  I am trying to take a 30 minute cat nap during the day, so that is helping.  2) Not enough water.  That’s the focus of today’s goal.

I know water is good for you.  I do.  But, I prefer sweet tea and soda.  I do not drink caffeine (I learned a long time ago that I get caffeine headaches and it’s just not worth it), so it’s decaf tea (sweetened with Splenda) and caffeine free Diet Coke.

Lately, I have done better on the Diet Coke, but seem to be drinking tea by the gallons!  I am especially prone to sipping while working on my projects at the computer!  Yikes!

So, today’s goal is two fold.  First, I’ve just run out of my last can of Diet Coke from the gigantic pack you can purchase at Costco, so part one of the goal is no more cases of Diet Coke purchased.  This does allow me to have an occasional one from the store or when out to eat, I just won’t be buying them for daily consumption.

Which brings me to the second part of my goal, and that is to drink substantially more water.  I don’t even average one glass a day, much less the 6-8 recommended.  I even have a wonderful water purifier set from Nikken, so there is really no excuse.  To allow myself to still have some tea, the goal is to drink two glasses of water for every one glass of tea.

So, my daily consumption should be 2/3 water, 1/3 tea and an occasional soda thrown in for fun.  And the body is thankful and happy.

Until tomorrow…let me go grab a glass of water.

To your success,

Dr. Laura

  • MOM

OMG – I am sooo there with you….I just don’t know if I can do what you’re doing but I know I have to at least ADD water to my daily intake to some degree…preferably more than the Dr. Pepper I drink but at least as much! It is sooo hard for me. I am convicted, my precious child…I will try better and pray harder for God to really take all the need/want for Dr. P away and replace it with a need/want for water! Sounds like an excellent prayer…gotta go…pray the prayer!

    • Be strong Mom! You can do it! Notice I didn’t say I was eliminating soda all together, just reducing it, and I know I’ll still treat myself to it once and a while. The idea is not to buy it by the cases! Also, I drink way too much tea and zero water, so wanted to bring that back into balance. Got my water sitting next to me right now!
      Love ya!
