31 Goals in 31 Days – Day 25 – Stop Working!

Catchy title, huh?  Makes you kind of wonder what today’s goal is about exactly.  Well, it’s about boundaries.  It’s about stopping work when it is time to.  The best part of being my own boss is that I get to work when I want, and the worst part of being my own boss is that I get to work when I want!

Often, the line between personal and business blurs, so that you find yourself working “all the time”.  Really, that’s not the case, but you may be thinking about your business while doing something with your family, or thinking about your family while doing something for your business.  It’s a two-way street.

A better solution is to be fully present for whatever you are doing.  That means when you have allocated time for your business in your schedule, that you do productive activities, without procrastination.  And, when you are spending time with your family, then be present, without thinking of all the other things you need to be doing.

Recently, I’ve found myself sliding in this area, so today’s goal is to re-establish the boundaries.

For me, I work during the day when children are in school, or in the evenings after they go to bed, with few exceptions.  Today’s goal is to keep that boundary, which means from 2 pm – 7 pm I am doing family activities – homework with the children, bath time, dinner time, reading with the children (we are currently reading the Little House Series).  And, this also means that whatever I need to accomplish or phone calls I need to make need to be made before 2 pm.

I’ll be turning my phone ringer off and “closing up shop” at 2 pm, and then spending the afternoon with my family.

To your success,

Dr. Laura
