At the beginning of the week, I started the Clear Out The Clutter Challenge Week, and well, the first change needed was evident very soon after starting.
We started out with a great start working on my office in day 1, but I only got about 1/2 way through the office. Then, day 2 decided to start with the laundry room (in an attempt to stay on schedule) and was excited to finish the laundry room that day.
But, on day 3, I went back into the office, and proceeded to spend the rest of that day and day 4 sorting through the remainder of the office, but…eventually did finish it.
Which brought us to day 5, and we tackled the playroom, which we did finish that day as well, in addition to going through the DVD collection for the kids’ videos.
So, through the week, I never touched the garage, or the closets, or the rest of the DVD collection…
Therefore, revision #1 – this is now Clear Out The Clutter Challenge MONTH. Forget the week. Even on spring break and dedicating the entire week to it, we still didn’t move as fast as I would have liked. (What’s the stats again? Double the time and triple the budget on any home improvement project? I guess I would include this and just triple the time…)
The good news is that after a week, I have a gigantic pile of stuff to list on CraigsList or eBay or donate (now I just need to find the time to do that too!).
Here’s some pictures of our week 1 journey…
First, the office before (yes, even organization coaches can have disorganized moments (weeks)):
Then, the office after (ahhhh…so nice…did I mention you are much more productive in a clutter-free workspace?):
Yes, by the way, that is SNOW in the background. In the middle of our week, we got 16 inches of snow, lost power, internet, phone and all the rest. But, we were cleaning!
Here’s the laundry room before:
And the laundry room after (we were shocked to find out we actually had a counter!):
The playroom before:
The playroom after – unfortunately, I did not get this picture quick because it now looks like the before picture (with a vacuumed floor underneath that we hadn’t seen for a while) now in less than 24 hours, but rest assured, it was clean for a few hours.
And the pile of stuff for future sale/donation is a nice dent:
What’s funny is that I don’t even notice these items missing from the upstairs! Amazing! Truly amazing!
So, the quest continues…will you join me in the Clear Out The Clutter Challenge Month?
To your success,
Dr. Laura
