On one hand, I run an organization and time management coaching company, OrganizeNOW. And, on the other hand, I have a doctorate degree and did research in infectious diseases for years. This lead to my quest on finding healthier alternatives, and discovering Norwex.
I realized long ago that the easiest thing to control is our own environment, namely, our home. We can also control what food we put in our bodies (but that’s a topic for another day…go watch the movie Food, Inc.).
In helping people manage their time, one of the biggest complaints is the regular things that need to be done – such as cleaning. So, I put together a quick list of 10 things you can do to create a healthy home environment. Most of the items on this list do not take any additional time, and several actually save you time and money. Let’s dive in…
- Reduce – Reduce your carbon footprint. Use fluorescent light bulbs. Use microfiber cloth towels instead of paper towels. Use a coffee cup instead of a paper one. Use less water, and use cold water where possible.
- Reuse – Reuse packaging. Re-purpose items to be used again where possible. Start a compost pile.
- Recycle – Recycle anything you can. Besides paper, plastic, etc. you can recycle household items – use Craig’s List or FreeCycle. Give unwanted items to a friend, or donate.
- Eliminate Toxins – Most household cleaners and personal products have high levels of toxins in them (you would be surprised!). Switch to natural and organic personal care products. Eliminate chemical cleaners, and use Norwex natural cleaning products instead. Eat organic foods when possible. Wash fruits and vegetables with the Norwex Fresh Wash to remove pesticides and residue.
- Drink Water – Our bodies need water to function! Everyone knows this, but how many actually do drink the amount of water we need each day? Eliminate caffeine.
- Reduce Allergens – Use allergy-blocking filters/fans. Use Norwex Mattress Cleaner to remove dust mite allergens.
- Clean Without Chemicals – Chemicals leave residue behind that attracts dirt and is a breeding ground for bacteria! Chemical overuse creates chemical-resistant superbugs. Chemicals are harmful to the environment. Use the Norwex Microfiber Antibacterial cloths and water to clean instead! No more toxic chemicals!
- Get Adequate Sleep – Sleep is essential to a high-functioning person! Schedule sleep in your day, and avoid burning the candle at both ends. Try to go to sleep at the same time each day, which will help your body get into a rhythm.
- Wash Your Hands! – Washing our hands is the number one way to prevent the spread of bacteria and disease. Wash your hands when you return home from anywhere, and always before eating. Teach your children this very important habit!
- Simplify – Clear out the clutter and simplify wherever you can. Clutter drains us emotionally and physically. When we have a clean, simple and neat space, it is energizing! Simplify your life by scheduling time (and allowing extra time) to do your tasks each day. Create a schedule for routine chores as well, such as cleaning every Saturday, etc. Use Norwex cleaning products to reduce the time spent cleaning (and save money too!).
Now, pick one area and do one thing to help create a healthy home environment for you and your family!
To your success,
