About

laura2Thanks for visiting!  I’m Dr. Laura and this blog is about my adventures in life.  It’s also about your adventures too!  I share information about what’s happening in my life, so we can connect and support each other in the journey called life.  I love hearing from you!  My goal for this blog is to write posts that will help you simplify and declutter your life!

But first … a little bit about me…

I guess I should start near the beginning, and explain how I became “Dr. Laura”.  I have a doctoral degree in Biomedical Science and I did research on cancer genetics for years.  It was a fulfilling experience, but when I had my first child, I knew that being a stay at home Mom was my higher calling.

At the time I quit working in my laboratory, I had already been working from home on the side for almost 3 years, so it was a fairly seamless transition to just working from home (especially since my paycheck had already passed my full-time job income!).

So, I’ve been working from home since 1999.  In between 1999 and now, I got married, had two children and moved from Virginia Beach to the frigid tundra of Vermont (where spring begins every year on June 1).

I also continued to work from home, and became very successful in the direct sales company I was with, earning many top awards every year, and training others to do the same.  But, in 2009, after 10 years with that company, I left to open my own training company, OrganizeNOW, because I wanted to help others outside my direct sales company.

I had already been training at a corporate level for years, and I loved to help others, so this was a natural transition.  I went on to publish two print books: Organization for Home-Based Business Professionals and Time Management for Home-Based Business Professionals along with several multimedia products.  I also coach others on how to build a successful business from home.

While all of that was going on, I found an amazing company called Thirty-One Gifts, which gets its name from Proverbs 31 in the Bible.  Thirty-One’s mission is to celebrate, encourage and reward women, and I absolutely love it!  I’m so blessed to be back in the field for direct sales, and heading up one of the fastest growing teams in the nation!

The last phase of my journey so far started in the fall of 2010, when I looked around my home and realized that I was swimming in a sea of clutter.  I’m organized (naturally…), but what I saw was just a matter of having too much “stuff”.  I began simplifying and started by issuing a challenge to myself – the 75 in 75 Challenge.

During the 75 in 75 Challenge, the goal was to get rid of 1 item a day from my home.  In the end, I wound up getting rid of 1,150 items from my home in that 75 day period, and I experienced an entirely new level of freedom.

This freedom led me to start Minimalist Monday Mission: Declutter 365, where I am decluttering my home room by room and area by area in the year of 2011, and I’m blogging about the journey with before and after pictures every Monday.  This has been nothing short of amazing, and continues to transform my life on a daily basis, as I am simplifying every area of my life: physical, mental, time, and more.

In my spare time, I love to read, and do crafts of all sorts (scrapbooking, quilting, crosstitch and more).  I enjoy each day with my friends and family and feel blessed beyond measure.  I am so grateful to God for His many blessings, and He continues to wow me every day.

So, that’s me in a nutshell.  Thanks for reading, and I’d love to have you as a subscriber!  You can join for free either via RSS feed or email, and I usually post once or twice a week.

Feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way!

Have a blessed day!

Dr. Laura
