Yes, tomatoes are in season. They are everywhere at my local farmer’s market. In every shape, size and color. I even have a few in my own garden (although not as many as I would like)!
So, I got inspired to make my own tomato sauce.
I’ve never made my own sauce before, and so I did check out some resources (The Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving and this post by Heavenly Homemakers) first before diving in. I combined both recipes and dove in.
I am all about quick and easy. I made two batches . . . → Read More: Dr. Laura’s Tasty Tuesday – Homemade Tomato Sauce

So, here in Vermont, we have local farmers who grow corn. Lots of corn. Sweet corn. Heavenly tasting, fresh-picked-that-very-day corn. If you have never had fresh-picked corn, you are truly missing out on one of life’s best.
A few weeks ago, when I had family visiting, we stopped by the local farm to pick up some fresh corn for dinner. YUM! And then just a few weeks later, I went by to get some more corn and WHOA! It’s really hard to believe that the summer is nearly over and children are starting school soon (or, in some cases, have started already!).

This also makes it easier for me, too, since I will be on the CLEAN program, which is entirely different food. This means I don’t have to worry about cooking much, because I already have several things stocked . . . → Read More: Menu Plan Monday – August 23

This year in the garden we planted potatoes. Five small starter potatoes. That grew taller, and taller, and then finally created a potato “wall” in the middle of the garden (making it a bit hard to get to the other side to weed!).
I wasn’t sure what I would find when I dug up the new potatoes, but, to my great surprise they had multiplied! A lot.
What to do with all those potatoes?
I had the brilliant idea of making homemade french fries.
That was, until I started making them.
Let me tell you that making homemade . . . → Read More: Processing Potatoes

So this year, since I planted a nice garden, I decided I would finally learn how to can. I’ve had the Ball Blue Book on my shelf for years, and had never cracked it. I also ordered a nice set of canning tools and another recipe/preserving book from Ball: The Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving (which has lots of nice recipes, whereas the Blue Book is just quick instructions on canning, freezing, dehydrating, etc.). Of course, you also need to stock up on many jars too (I would recommend getting some quart size, some pint size, and if . . . → Read More: Canning 101
