Dr. Laura’s Tasty Tuesday – Heavenly Hummus

This week as I was checking out the recipes on the CLEAN forums, in preparation for my participation in the CLEAN program again, I found a tasty recipe for hummus.

After I nearly burned out the motor in my blender, I made a few changes to the recipe and came up with this fantastic concoction!

I tried it with cut baby carrots and homemade brown rice tortilla chips (take brown rice tortillas, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt, cut into wedges, and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crunchy) and it . . . → Read More: Dr. Laura’s Tasty Tuesday – Heavenly Hummus

The Allergy Experiment – Week 5

Well, I am back from a week of travel visiting family for the holiday, and although I did have a few problems, the week  overall was mostly problem free!

Just a reminder what my weekly goals are:

Keep a daily log of foods eaten, what times, and digestive results Go back on the CLEAN program starting immediately for at least 21 days.  More info here on CLEAN.  This may be tricky because of upcoming travel. Fast from all food one day a week (evening to evening) Exercise twice a week on the elliptical machine (or other . . . → Read More: The Allergy Experiment – Week 5

The Allergy Experiment – Week 4

If you remember from my not-so-good week last week, I revised my goals to be:

Keep a daily log of foods eaten, what times, and digestive results Go back on the CLEAN program starting immediately for at least 21 days.  More info here on CLEAN.  This may be tricky because of upcoming travel. Fast from all food one day a week (evening to evening) Exercise twice a week on the elliptical machine (or other exercise) for 20 minutes any time during the week Continue to simplify, minimize, and avoid stress and travel (which seems to trigger . . . → Read More: The Allergy Experiment – Week 4

The Allergy Experiment – Week 3

Well, this week has to go down in history as one of the worst, with not one but two separate digestive events.  Not pleasant.  Especially since one episode was on the way to another state for a meeting, where I had to stop along the way THREE times, rather urgently, I might add (sorry, maybe TMI).

And what is so frustrating is I can’t zero in on what is causing these problems.  I am just not sure.  I feel as though part of this is my fault, as I really still am eating too many foods . . . → Read More: The Allergy Experiment – Week 3

The Allergy Experiment – Week 2

Okay, this week let’s talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly from last week.

If you missed the background post from week 1, you can read it here.

As a refresher, let’s look at what I was aiming to do this week:

Keep a daily log of foods eaten, what times, and digestive results Avoid all allergen foods and eat from the elimination diet “okay” list found in CLEAN Do a liquid breakfast (smoothie), but eat a regular solid lunch and dinner Fast from all food one day a week (Wednesday evening after dinner . . . → Read More: The Allergy Experiment – Week 2

The Allergy Experiment – Week 1

Today marks the beginning of my experiment. The Allergy Experiment.

Let me start with a little bit of background information.

First, I’ve had digestive problems for 2 years.  At first, I thought they were a fluke, then an annoyance, and finally, realized that something was seriously wrong.  Having digestive problems is awful.  And, as my issues have gotten worse, they have also gotten more restrictive.  So, now, before I go anywhere, I map out the nearest bathrooms along the way, and when I go to do an activity, I make sure there is easy . . . → Read More: The Allergy Experiment – Week 1

Do You Eat REAL FOOD?

Okay, I know what you are thinking…

Of course I eat real food!  But, does the food you are eating nourish your body?  Is it working with the design that God has created in each of us?  Is it helping restore and heal your body, or is it breaking it down?

Perhaps you are like me.  I was fine on the “standard American diet” for a long time.  I was overweight after the birth of my two children, and suffered from PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome), but I thought I was fine.  I did end up . . . → Read More: Do You Eat REAL FOOD?

My CLEAN Journey

Some of you may be wondering what happened to the tail end of my second round of CLEAN.  Well, I stopped a bit earlier than the full 21 days, but I wanted to follow up to share some insights with you.

I ate from a list of “okay” foods for almost a month (in 2 segments).  This list excludes all major allergens, such as wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, peanuts, etc.  Here’s a picture of the list of foods for the elimination diet (click on the picture to enlarge), and you can download the entire CLEAN manual here.

CLEAN Round 2, Day 10

Ahhh….smoothie, how I have missed you!  It is day 10 of the 21 day CLEAN program.  I feel better today as I’ve finished all the leftovers and stayed back with the CLEAN program today.

I was reading a blog post recently from the Healthy Home Economist, where she was talking about Industrial Food Sickness.  Interesting concept.  The idea is that when you start to eat more natural, whole foods and eliminate processed junk from your meals, your body adjusts to the better quality of food.  Then, when you may have a meal out at a fast food restaurant or . . . → Read More: CLEAN Round 2, Day 10

CLEAN Round 2, Day 9

It’s day 9 in the 21 day CLEAN program.  And, it’s the last day of leftovers!  Thank goodness, because I am feeling so sluggish.  Although my breakfast sandwiches are fantastic, I am craving a smoothie!

So, here’s today’s menu to wrap up this “leftovers break” in the CLEAN menu:

Breakfast: none

Lunch: Breakfast Sandwich

Dinner: Tea

Short post today.  I’m pooped!

To your success,

Dr. Laura
