The Allergy Experiment – Week 1

Today marks the beginning of my experiment. The Allergy Experiment.

Let me start with a little bit of background information.

First, I’ve had digestive problems for 2 years.  At first, I thought they were a fluke, then an annoyance, and finally, realized that something was seriously wrong.  Having digestive problems is awful.  And, as my issues have gotten worse, they have also gotten more restrictive.  So, now, before I go anywhere, I map out the nearest bathrooms along the way, and when I go to do an activity, I make sure there is easy . . . → Read More: The Allergy Experiment – Week 1

Do You Eat REAL FOOD?

Okay, I know what you are thinking…

Of course I eat real food!  But, does the food you are eating nourish your body?  Is it working with the design that God has created in each of us?  Is it helping restore and heal your body, or is it breaking it down?

Perhaps you are like me.  I was fine on the “standard American diet” for a long time.  I was overweight after the birth of my two children, and suffered from PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome), but I thought I was fine.  I did end up . . . → Read More: Do You Eat REAL FOOD?

My CLEAN Journey

Some of you may be wondering what happened to the tail end of my second round of CLEAN.  Well, I stopped a bit earlier than the full 21 days, but I wanted to follow up to share some insights with you.

I ate from a list of “okay” foods for almost a month (in 2 segments).  This list excludes all major allergens, such as wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, peanuts, etc.  Here’s a picture of the list of foods for the elimination diet (click on the picture to enlarge), and you can download the entire CLEAN manual here.

CLEAN Round 2, Day 10

Ahhh….smoothie, how I have missed you!  It is day 10 of the 21 day CLEAN program.  I feel better today as I’ve finished all the leftovers and stayed back with the CLEAN program today.

I was reading a blog post recently from the Healthy Home Economist, where she was talking about Industrial Food Sickness.  Interesting concept.  The idea is that when you start to eat more natural, whole foods and eliminate processed junk from your meals, your body adjusts to the better quality of food.  Then, when you may have a meal out at a fast food restaurant or . . . → Read More: CLEAN Round 2, Day 10

CLEAN Round 2, Day 9

It’s day 9 in the 21 day CLEAN program.  And, it’s the last day of leftovers!  Thank goodness, because I am feeling so sluggish.  Although my breakfast sandwiches are fantastic, I am craving a smoothie!

So, here’s today’s menu to wrap up this “leftovers break” in the CLEAN menu:

Breakfast: none

Lunch: Breakfast Sandwich

Dinner: Tea

Short post today.  I’m pooped!

To your success,

Dr. Laura

CLEAN Round 2, Day 8

It’s day 8 in the 21 day CLEAN program.  We are having a crazy week, which is part of the reason I am just opting for leftovers.  Cooking CLEAN foods tends to take more time.  But, this is good, because the food is also less processed.  Still working through some leftovers, so obviously taking a few day hiatus from the CLEAN regimen.  I’ll be back on track tomorrow, I think.

Today:

Breakfast – Breakfast Sandwich

Lunch – Spaghetti

Dinner – Tea

Feeling tired today.  Lots to do though as we get ready for school to start again as well.  . . . → Read More: CLEAN Round 2, Day 8

CLEAN Round 2, Day 7

It’s day 7 in the 21 day CLEAN program.  Still had some leftovers to deal with today, so today’s menu was all leftovers, and not CLEAN.  I must say, that I still can notice a difference with today being less energy (because of the food, no doubt), and also feeling more sluggish in general.

Here’s what I ate today:

Breakfast – none

Lunch – Salad with Chicken

Dinner – American Flatbread Cheese and Herb Pizza

On to tomorrow…at least the salad today was good!

To your success,

Dr. Laura

CLEAN Round 2, Day 6

It’s day 6 in the 21 day CLEAN program.  Things are moving right along.  I have to admit there is one thing that I have found to be “hard” on this program.  That’s food waste.

The problem lies with the fact that pre-CLEAN, my pantry was not so healthy.  Moving in to CLEAN, I went out and bought healthier foods (and non-allergen foods).  Since I am the only one eating CLEAN in my home, I am still cooking for my family from my pantry, which is still steadily evolving into a more healthy pantry (as one thing runs out, . . . → Read More: CLEAN Round 2, Day 6

CLEAN Round 2, Day 5

Day 5 is here in my second round of CLEAN.  For those just joining me on my journey, it’s designed to be a 21 day cleansing program, which removes all common allergen foods from your diet.  Then, one at a time, you reintroduce a food to see how your body reacts to it.  This allows you to detect any food sensitivities.

I am doing this because I have had digestive problems for about 18 months, and I want to find out what (if any) foods might be triggering a response, since often food allergies are presented as digestive problems.

CLEAN Round 2, Day 4

It is day 4 of the 21 day CLEAN program, and today was pretty uneventful.

Just like the last round of CLEAN, once you start to get in the rhythm of the days, they just blend together, and become the norm.

The key here is to NOT focus on what you CANNOT have, but instead focus on what you CAN have.

So, I use this opportunity to get creative with my recipes and try out some new variations.  (I’ll be blogging later on how I organize my recipes!)

But alas, today was just another normal day

Here’s what . . . → Read More: CLEAN Round 2, Day 4
