With the new year upon us many look to make huge “new year’s resolutions” and often those big ideas last for a few weeks and then they are gone. Well, here’s a new idea. How about 100 small goals to be accomplished in 100 days? That’s exactly what my brother, David Lunsford (also a self-employed entrepreneur) is doing, and he is blogging about his experiences.

You can waste hours of time talking and gossiping on the telephone. Not only is it time-wasted, but this is usually when your children get into trouble, or be naughty because they realize the phone has taken mother’s attention away from them.
The TV.

As I am working on the quilt I am making for my uncle from my grandmother’s old clothes, I was wondering about finishing the quilt. It occurred to me that people are predominantly either a starter or a finisher. Which are you?

The finisher loves to wrap things up. They get jobs done, but have a hard time starting a new project.
I am, by far, a starter. And, if you know what you are, . . . → Read More: Are You a Starter or a Finisher?

Want one of the best kept secrets in the time management world? It’s called the 2 minute rule.
What we tend to do is pile things that we need to do “later”. So you might get a reminder postcard in the mail from your dentist telling you to make an appointment. So, we “pile” the paper to do later.
What starts as one paper quickly turns into a large pile of things to do either on your desk or in your inbox.
Instead start doing the 2 minute rule. The 2 minute rule states that if you get an . . . → Read More: The 2 Minute Rule

In the Top 10 Organization Strategies, step 7 is to apply the 80/20 rule to your to do list.
Did you know that the 80/20 rule applies to almost every situation? In business, we know this rule to be that 80% of the sales are generated by 20% of the people, or 20% of the sales are generated by 80% of the people. This rule is the Pareto Principle, and we can use it with your “to do” list as well.
If you look at your list and it has 10 action items to do that day, 2 of . . . → Read More: The 80/20 Rule and Your “To Do” List

Remember that only 1 out of 10 plan their day on paper before it begins.
There are several different “to do” lists that are needed to maximize your productivity, and there is a right and wrong way to set them up.
First, you need a Master “To Do” List. This is a brain dump of everything that comes to mind that you need to do now or sometime in the future. The easiest way to set up this Master “To Do” List . . . → Read More: The Right and Wrong Way to Make a “To Do” List
